When it comes to being sharp, stiff and durable, steel is king. Titanium checks some of those boxes, and "magic space metal" is pretty magical... and incredibly expensive. For non-metallic options, carbon fiber is a solid alternative. Lightweight, non-magnetic, durable, field-sharpen-able, stiff, and capable of holding a great point and a decent edge.
All that to say... think of our Carbon Fiber Scalpel as more of an... impromptu scalpel. (Don't try to perform actual surgery with it.)
Inspired (in part) from the concept of the old "CIA letter openers" from the 80s, these take the simple non-metallic blade into the 21st century.
More than capable of punching 1/4" holes in things that need holes put into them, and slicing/tearing a triangular wound on the way in-and-out.
Is it strong? Yeah, it's strong:
All black (of course) with two indexing swoops ground into the 1/4" round shaft for point/edge alignment and a better grip. Black heat-shrink added for better grip as well. The butt end is rounded to be easily palmed for support on a thrust. The sharpened tip is ~1.5" long and roughly triangular in profile.
Each one is custom made on demand so there will be some variations in blade shape. We continue to test and refine our design, so whenever you order know that you are receiving the apex result of our R&D.
While the Carbon Fiber is sharpened to a point and an edge, its edge will never be razor sharp. If you need to use it, the edge can be touched up easily on the bottom of a ceramic coffee mug, an emory board/nail file, a slab of cement, the edge of a car window or scrap of sandpaper.
No problem getting past metal detectors, but they (and any solid object) will appear on x-ray and body scanners.
